Interoperability testing

Interoperability is major part in the testing of networking and data communications products. Passing the interop tests guarantees that your product will work in the fields where multi-vendor equipment installed. Interoperability can include intercommunication of separated protocols and services (MSTP, SOAM, IGMP, SNMP client-server) or interoperability your product in the laboratory with real network emulated. Such laboratories may include maximum multi-vendor equipment with many telecommunication services running on these devices.
There are some laboratories in the different part of world to provide interoperability services for networking and telecom products (EANTC in Europe, IOL in USA). Many well-known vendors participate in such testing to demonstrate their products are ready for using in real networks.
More than that the interoperability testing may reveal some problems which were not discovered during conformance or stress testing. It is very useful sometimes to compare your realization with someone else.
