Conformance Testing

Functional Testing is testing to determine whether a product/device or system meets some specified standard or functional requirements. The functional testing is often testing of conformance to standards. Telecom/Networking area has a lot of different standards for protocols, devices, network elements developed by different organizations (IEEE, RFC, IETF, MEF, etc) which often intersect or refer each other. More than that the customer requirements can amend the standard requirements. Thereby the functional test cases should cover all the customer requirements and mandatory standard requirements to interoparate with other related network elements.

The functional test cases for telecom/networking area include the following:

  • Analizing of network frames/structure of signal using different tools and equipment
  • Network/telecom protocols operating using different scenarios and configurations (client-server, point-to-point, multipoint-to-multipoint, simple/complex configurations)
  • How the protocol engine/network element handles the requests/responses from remote side
  • How the protocol engine/network element process different network frames/signals
