Performance Testing

Performance testing of telecom devices allows to identify the system capacity and possibility to handle the traffic with maxumum load. There are many standards and methods how to measure performance and throughput. For example RFC 2544 (http://www6.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2544) which describes how measure the performance characteristics of network devices. It recommends to measure the throughput on the following Ethernet frame sizes:

 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 1280, 1518

There are also a set of the full-featured commercial or open source load test tools for network devices.

The main purpose of performance testing is measurement of limitations and identify whether the network element satisfy the system performance requirements.
